Does John 5:22-23 teach that we should worship Jesus as God?

The "Iglesia Ni Cristo" teaches that Jesus is not God. Additionally, they worship him, but they do not worship him as God. Does John 5:22-23 teach contrary to the INC that we should worship Jesus as God?

John 5:22-23 (ESV) - 22 The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

When we look at this passage, we see that it indeed teaches that we should worship Jesus as God.

This verse tells us to honor the Son just as we honor the Father.

We read in verse 23 the phrase "just as" (Greek: kathos). We are to honor the Son "just as" we honor the Father. How do we honor the Father? We honor him as God and we worship him as God. How do we honor the Son? According to this verse, we should honor him just as we honor the Father. We should honor him by worshiping him as God.

The one who refuses to worship Jesus as God, refuses to worship God at all.

The verse also says whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. We were previously told how to honor the Son: we are to honor him as God. Therefore, if one does not honor the Son as God, he does not honor the Father.

It is a grave sin not to worship the Son as God. It is equivalent to idolatry and is avoiding the worship of God altogether.

Conclusion

The Iglesia Ni Cristo does not honor the Son as God, and therefore they do not honor God at all. They commit the sin of idolatry.

We should believe what Jesus spoke, and honor him as God. Jesus says in the next verse:

John 5:24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
